Christine Lucey died an untimely death at the age of forty: the result of medical negligence. Six years of intense suffering, involving ten major abdominal operations, dramatically diminished her quality of life and left her marriage all but in ruins.
Don tells this harrowing and moving story of misreported smears, misdiagnosis, medical procrastination and surgical bungling to alert young women to be vigilant and not to put blind faith in doctors who can, and do, make catastrophic mistakes.

"An explosive account that skilfully weaves medical and legal information into a strong and readable human interest story"

Jane Warren, Daily Express

Dear Don,
Just a note to say thank you for the book, I enjoyed reading it immensely, (read it in one day) and found it very moving, kindest regards,
Sibylla.

Hi Don,
I read the book within 12 hours of receiving it as I couldn't put it down! I feel it was written extremely well and that the story was explained in great detail. At times, with tears rolling down my face, I remembered that everything written had actually happened and wasn't some sad novel. What a horrible time you all suffered. I am so pleased that by writing this book Chris's death wouldn't have been in vain as I'm sure it will make female readers think more of their health and push the medical profession if they feel something is not quite right, I know I will.
I think the way you were treated was appalling and only hope things are better now for Rebecca's sake.
Please continue writing as I will be reading!
My Mum has nearly finished reading so when she has I'll email her comments.
Thank you for signing the books. Kind regards,
Terri

Dear Don,
I am sorry that it has taken me so long to reply to your e mail, everything is somewhat manic here in the lead up to Christmas! I finally tracked down a copy of your book in Waterstones at Bluewater. Once I started it I could not put it down and I read it in one day. I found it both honest and moving and at times I have to say quite painful. It had a profound effect on me and perhaps I will lend it to my mum to read if ever the time is right. Your wife sounds like she was a remarkable lady but you too are equally remarkable. I have seen firsthand what my dad goes through in caring for my mum both at the height of her illness and with the legacy it has left behind. It saddens me that so many people ask after my mum but they never think to ask how my dad is or how he is coping. He just seems to soldier on day in day out but I do worry about him. Anyway, with regards to the cervical cancer awareness week I am more than happy to let you have my number as I agree it is perhaps easier to discuss on the 'phone rather than via e mail.
Bye for now,
Julie

Hi Don,
I finally got your book before I went on holiday in November and read it while I was out in America and it is the best and saddest book I have read.
I really find it hard to read and keep reading a book but I couldn't stop to put yours down. I recommend it to anyone.
I'm so sorry about the problems your family went through.
I discovered your website in the Evening Advertiser then found you email address.
Hope all is well.
Gemma
p.s. I'll have to keep to book on me now incase I run into you so you can sign it as you promised.

Dear Don
Let me introduce myself. My name is Marie, I am National Sales Manager for Cytyc Australia the manufacturer of ThinPrep Pap test (TPPT) via our parent Boston based parent corporation.
Maria who you met whilst in Australia is a good friend of mine. I was delighted when she presented me with an autographed copy of your moving book celebrating Chris's life and ensuring that her suffering would not go unnoticed.
I am a histologist by profession and have served in the NSW Parliament, however I too was shocked that two of my nieces ended up with a hysterectomy, they were both under the age of 30 at the time, victims of False negative Pap smears.
I decided to do something about it and joined Cytyc, we are on a corporate mission around the world to improve women's lot, the UK via the NHS NICE trial will be positive for Europe, Scotland has already decided in February this year to replace the Pap smear with TPPT!
I found your book most inspiring and moving, I hope you and Rebecca are well and happy and that you are rebuilding your life. I look forward to letting you know of my progress in Medicare reimbursement (Federal Government subsidisation) re our National Screening Program.
Thank you for giving me a real boost in enthusiasm for my mission in life!! I admire yours!!
